Derivatives Accounting Analyst
Department: Porfolio Operations
Title: Derivatives Accounting Analyst
Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience.
Purpose
Performs accounting, processing and reporting functions related to the Bank’s Derivatives Portfolio. Duties include approving transactions, review and setup of complex financial structures in systems, analyzing income trends and fluctuations, researching variances, preparing reports, analyses and developing a working knowledge of ISDA, the accounting and operations system and the Bank’s hedging activities through the use of derivative products.
Major Accountabilities

Performs accounting and processing functions of the portfolio of derivatives that include interest rate swaps, exotic structured derivatives, caps, floors and swaptions. Maintain the transactions in the operational systems. Resolve settlement discrepancies. Reconcile all subsystems to the Trial Balance and General Ledger.

Month End Income Analysis – Identify reasons for changes in net interest income due to the composition of the derivatives portfolios. Evaluates and assesses the impact of repricings on the portfolio. Identifies and evaluates the income impact of changes in hedging relationships.

Performs Variance Analysis identifying the components that caused the variances. Researches and resolves discrepancies.

Prepares ad hoc reports for management on an as needed basis.

Assists performing settlements, rates, transaction processing and interest accounting functions including transaction input and verification on a daily basis. Evaluates and monitors the setup of complex financial transactions in the investment accounting system.

Assists in updating policies and procedures for all transaction desks including the update of the department’s Control Self Assessment.

May assist the Manager of Derivative Operations with various tasks related to accounting and processing of the portfolio.
Skills/Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field or equivalent education required.

Two to five years experience within Treasury or investment operations in a financial industry.

Able to operate PC-based software programs including portfolio accounting software, accounting general ledger applications and other financial applications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Strong interpersonal, problem resolution, organization and work prioritization skills.

Good attention to detail plus planning and organizing skills.
